Max Radt, Director Aluminium Systems, European Export & Projects, discusses the new wood aluminium unitised curtain wall system, highlighting the marriage of the Aluminium with its durable and highly recyclable material to wood with its low carbon footprint. The unitised façade system with its high-performance capabilities and modular prefabrication process ensures the protection of wood from the elements when its clipped on to the aluminium after the outer shell of the building is closed.
He further states that sustainability is the topic that is influencing all activities in our society. Initially in construction, the main focus is energy efficiency, but lately construction materials, recycling and renewable resources are also getting more attention. The static performance has been entirely redeveloped, which means that we have a self-sustaining aluminium chassis, which can be produced, transported and mounted and remain for a certain period of time installed on site on its own. But the final static performance, that is required for the façade, is only achieved after connecting the load bearing wooden shell to the chassis on site. This two-step principle is actually the new development and novelty of our system.

The wood-aluminium unitised façade has the possibility to be customized and adapted to the needs and design intent of the architect. At the same time, we - as a system supplier - are considering the fact that all customers that are used to design and produce aluminium unitised facades, are going to be able to produce and install the new system themselves. For this reason, we have decided to supply not only the aluminium components and aluminium frames, but also the wooden shells, cut to size and tailormade for each unit position, and offer delivery either to the customers workshop or directly to the building site ready to be installed.
