What would modern buildings be without aluminium? Windows, doors, and curtain walls without effective thermal insulation, roof and wall systems, handles, fittings, and light scaffolding are hard to imagine without this material. Its advantages are obvious: Aluminium is durable, extremely sturdy, and very low-maintenance. It is very stable despite the low weight, which makes narrow load-bearing structures and light substructures possible. Anodizing and powder coating options provide an unlimited selection of colors.
Outstanding construction requires much more service than simply the delivery of aluminium profiles. The depth of added value including in-house prefabrication as a basis for consistent quality in all manufacturing steps is essential in adhering to the warranty periods demanded by the market for major construction sites. The GUTMANN GROUP and especially GARTNER EXTRUSION GmbH are market leaders for profiles and composite components for curtain wall construction and have many years of experience in this field as well as excellent references, for example the Hamburg Philharmonic Hall.
GARTNER EXTRUSION GmbH also supplies premium curtain wall profiles with thermal break and highly decorative, durable surfaces for the “One Hyde Park” housing area in London.
For the construction of the Allianz Arena in Munich, 2,800 diamond-shaped, transparent air cushions were required for an area of approximately 60,000 square feet. The architectural design resulted in 1,400 different diamond-shaped sections. Aluminium was the material of choice here because it ensures optimal tightness for the roof structure despite variations in temperature. GUTMANN AG supplied approx. 100 tons of custom fit extrusion profiles as well as full mechanical processing. The sawed, milled, bent, and anodized profiles were used to border the membranes for the roof structure. The profile cross-sections were developed jointly with GUTMANN AG all the way up to the ready-to-install product.
For the „Home of FIFA“ of the World Soccer Association, GUTMANN ALUMINIUM DRAHT GmbH processed 12 tons of aluminium into 2.5 million meters of specialized wire with a diameter of 1.5 mm. The aluminium wire from the 5000 series of alloys features a particularly low-oxide surface with special extrusion effects. These qualities as well as the final anodizing help prevent corrosion damage. The material was finished by a renowned manufacturer of architectural fiber before it was shipped to the curtain wall construction company responsible for the FIFA building. Today, the fiber covers several thousand square meters of surface and displays the building in fascinating shimmering effects.
