The online retail giant Zalando added another expansion to the company campus, creating a new headquarter based in Berlin, Germany. The architectural firm Henn GmbH in conjunction with Kinzo-Berlin, which was responsible for the interior design, created an open and flexible office concept on seven floors. Upon entering the Z shaped building into the lively market square in the entrance, you are welcomed with a vertical atrium, open over the entire seven floors and flooding natural light to the ground surrounding the colossal wooden staircase that doubles as a seating area, along with auditorium, café and conference room.
The innovative architectural design from HENN and Kinzo maximized on natural light from the roof glass façade to create an open contemporary theme throughout the interior of the building which encompassed the modular workstations in the upper floors to bring 2300 employees together in what Zalando calls “Living rooms” and “Neighbourhoods”, further influencing the creative culture of the digital company. Not only that, the new headquarters house roof terraces, fitness centers and basketball court, daycare and kindergarten and relaxation areas.
The Zalando project, completed 2020, complies with sustainability criteria, operating with green electricity and utilizing GUTMANN’s sustainable materials for the façade and curtain walls that surround the entire structure.
