Object report Historical Archive and Rhenish Picture Archive, Cologne

The architects Waechter + Waechter designed the new building that houses both the Historical Archives of Cologne along with the Rhenish Picture Archives, creating an elegant landmark that attracts researchers and tourists, alike. This iconic structure is built with GUTMANN LARA GF curtain wall that is based on storey high connections of vertical mullions and horizontal transoms. The façade covers the three-storey building and encompasses fixed glazing that highlights a Brise-Soleil façade to protect from direct sunlight whilst still allowing maximum natural light admittance. The GUTMANN LARA systems comes in Architectural Bronze curtain wall and is the protective jacket for the interior of the white-oiled Douglas Fir wood frame of the fixed windows displaying grandeur and warmth simultaneously, for a bright and inviting effect utilizing natural materials and colours.

 

The GUTMANN Architectural Bronze façade based on the GUTMANN LARA GF wood aluminium curtain wall system not only impresses with its opulent elegance but satisfy the highest insulation specifications to ensure efficient energy consumption while shielding the valuable archives from fluctuating external climate. The façade boasts high thermal insulation and water tightness along with anti-burglary protection, further fortifying the treasure inside. The ring architecture of the building surrounding the windowless structure of the housed archives has bright and light filled reading rooms which engulf an inner courtyard that is both protective and inviting.
