The Kindergarten and Parish Centre designed by Stuttgart architects ATELIER BRÜCKNER, along with the St. Hippolytus church make up the catholic church community in Troisdorf, Germany. The two new buildings were designed as the town’s new entrance and form an architectural and social unit for the catholic community. The homogenous theme in the structures speaks the same design language and use of materials thereby creating an urban landmark. The Parish community centre is designed as a city gate that extends into three fronts, shaped like a star.
Using the wood-aluminium curtain wall system GUTMANN LARA GF for the two storey building and the wood-aluminium window system MIRA contour to make up the large glass entrance that first greets this town. The natural beech wood and generous daylight flooding the interior from the Gutmann high glazed façade and windows make up the warm ambiance of the community centre and continues on the reserved natural theme of the whole urban space. GUTMANN LARA GF presents high water tightness of RE1200 and thermal insulation levels up to passive house criteria.
The 750sqm Kindergarten is constructed to the south of the property and faces a protected green area. According to the project manager at ATELIER BRÜCKNER “to give the children a place that was protected, we therefore formulated the southern outer wall as a means of acoustic and visual protection.”
Also of note ATELIER BRUCKNER received Kitapreis NRW 2020 award from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the NRW Chamber of Architects who want to highlight the importance of the architectural quality of kindergarten buildings and emphasize their positive influence on the learning and living environment of children.
The building has a partly open structure and also utilises GUTMANN LARA GF and MIRA contour windows of wood aluminium to maintain the theme of the architecture throughout. The colour scheme and the materials used in the project are intentionally reserved. The high glazing facades and floor to ceiling windows along with the skylights maximize on natural daylight while preserving ideal indoor climate. Gutmann building systems ensure natural light admittance with high thermal and acoustic insulation needed for the kindergarten environment.
